This is an independent project I did to better my skills in photography and After Effects. My goal for this project was to create a series of images that felt like summer. I placed illustrations and text over the images to add a punch of color and fun. Each product is differentiated by the illustrations, text, colors, and music, which bring attention to the changing of the seasons and adds interest, while maintaining the look of a common theme. I also liked the effect stop motion can give a piece, so I created all the videos using stop motion and added stop motion effects the the superimposed assets.
I chose to do my series for the Starbucks Instagram page. The products I chose to highlight were their new Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, Impossible Breakfast Sandwich, Lemon Loaf, and the Dragon Drink. I chose these products because Starbucks was also featuring them in their menu, and because they felt very “summery” to me.
Iced Toasted Vanilla
Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

"That First Sip Feeling"
For this drink I wanted to emphasize the beauty of the drink and bring in the classic Starbucks phrase on their cups.
Impossible Breakfast Sandwich

"Charge Up"
With the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich I wanted to emphasize this plant-based sandwich alternative.
Dragon Drink

"Taste The Summer"
I used this drink to bring in the name of this series, "Taste the summer," as this is arguably the most colorful product in the series and emulates the idea of the series the best.
Lemon Loaf

"Summer Yum"
The Lemon Loaf is a flavorful summer snack, so I took that idea and tried to convey “yum” in every bite.
Through this project I learned the importance of planning. Through out I worked hard to plan the shots before doing the photo shoots. The planning included choosing the product and its presentation, the colors, and scheduling the model. Some spur of the moment ideas also added to the project, such as the Lemon Loaf disappearing through bites. This was a fun project and I will definitely do more photoshoots in the future. This project was inspired by my P3 photoshoot I did a few months ago.
Overall, I think I was able to capture the colorful look I wanted with the fun superimposed elements.
I would also like to thank Morgan R. for helping me with the coffee shoot, and Jackie K. for helping me with the lemon loaf and dragon drink shoots.
